When you want to talk about overall health and what would be a great foundation to lay, I would say start with water. Water is the most important nutrient to our bodies as it is involved in every function of our bodies. There’s a reason why going without food is easier than going without liquid. Since a large percentage of our body actually contains water, we therefore need it to function optimally.

Did you know that Your Body is about 70% water? Your muscles are about 75% water. Your brain cells are about 85 % water. Your blood is about 82% water and even your bones are about 25% water. I have known a lot of people that just don’t drink water, or they drink very little water. They were either brought up on juice and soda or they just plain don’t like the taste of water. I would have to say that in today’s society the majority of people go back and forth between sugar based drinks and caffeine based drinks. There has been a big surge in energy drinks lately that contain a large amount of both sugar and caffeine. The biggest factor to realize here is that sugar and caffeine actually steal water from your body and dehydrate you rather than hydrate you. If you do any reading at all on water you will find that it is a foundation of health and can be a cure for many of your current ailments. Simply because we are not hydrated enough with the nutrients we need to function at our best.
Right now as you are reading this your body could be crying out for more water. If it is your body and your mind is paying a price for that. If this is a regular event for you, then I’m sure you will suffer from ailments such as headaches, arthritis, skin problems, digestion problems etc. Often people will then go to a Doctor who then subscribes something to relieve the symptom but unfortunately does not cure the problem. The fact is that a lot of people are living in a mildly dehydrated state with various irritating symptoms and never realize it. Dr. Don Colbert simply puts it like this, “When you have a joint pain, you don’t have an Advil deficiency. When you have heartburn, you don’t have Pepcid deficiency, and if you are depressed you don’t have a Prozac deficiency.” In most of these cases your body is crying out for more water. Here is something to think about. If you are waiting until you are thirsty to have a drink of water, then you are most likely already dehydrated.
I have personally seen huge benefits with my clients listening to my advice and switching their sugar and caffeine based drinks with more water. Since our bodies lose about two quarts of water a day through perspiration, urination, and exhalation, we need to top up our tanks and stay hydrated and stay healthy. The bottom line is that are bodies contain large amounts of water and we need to recognize that for optimal healthy living it is our responsibility to treat ourselves with ample amounts of good clean water.
